World-famous Cambridge is rich in history and has been described as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

It is located on the River Cam with an estimated population of 120,000, including 25,000 students.  Cambridge is home to the famous University, King’s College Chapel and punting on the River Cam.

Ancient Church - Cambridge

There is evidence of settlement in Cambridge in the Bronze Age. The Vikings arrived in 875 and Cambridge then became an important trading centre. The church of St Bene’t’s, (left), was built around 1025 AD and is the oldest standing building in Cambridgeshire. The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209 and remains one of the world’s five best universities.

Cambridge is at the heart of the thriving cluster of high technology businesses that have grown up around it, making it the ideal location to attract a highly skilled workforce.  It has a high number of people in the highest paid managerial, professional and administrative jobs and more than 40% of the workforce has a higher education qualification, more than twice the national average.

Cambridge has a diverse economy with strengths in sectors such as research and development, software consultancy, high value engineering, creative industries, pharmaceuticals and tourism.  Tourism generates over £300 million for the city’s economy.  The Cambridge Science Park is the largest commercial R&D centre in Europe.

Local companies in the area include AstraZeneca, Apple, Amazon, ARM, Microsoft Research and Marshall Aerospace Group.

Accessibility

Cambridge is situated just 50 miles from London.  The M11 provides a direct route to the M25 and London while the A14 links the city with the Midlands and the east coast.  Rail links in Cambridge provide a regular direct service to London.  Cambridge also benefits from numerous bus routes, included a guided busway and is well served by Stansted airport, only 20 miles away.
